Quite often you will be asked or required to name someone as "Additional Insured". Following are some common forms or changes that are also requested by additional insured's:

Additional Insured: A person or organization for whom insured status is arranged by endorsement.

Primary Wording: Provides coverage to the Additional Holder on a Primary or direct basis. Increases the exposure for the insured and often results in additional premium charge.

Deletion of "Endeavor To" wording: The endeavor to wording refers to the certificate of insurance form. The certificate states that the carrier will endeavor to notify the holder of any cancellation of the policy. Deletion of the wording then requires the carrier to make notification.

Waiver of Subrogation: This wording removes a portion of the policy that allows a carrier to "Subrogate" against another in the event of a claim. Subrogation simply stated is to seek reimbursement from another responsible party. To delete this wording exposes your policy to additional costs due to lack of recovery. Typically a carrier will make a premium charge for this wording.

Hold Harmless: A contractual agreement that requires one contracting party to assume legal liabilities of the other party. Acts to increase the insured's exposure, many carriers are reluctant to provide this or will charge for this.

CG 2010: This is the form that is attached to an insurance policy that actually provides the Additional Insured status. There are several edition dates available, each providing different changes to the coverage. The endorsement amends the "Who Is An Insured" provisions. The following are excerpts from two common editions of this form.
  11 85: "....but only with respect to liability arising out of "your work" for that insured by or for you".
  10 93: "...but only with respect to liability arising out of your ongoing operations performed for that insured".

"Your work" is typically defined as:
    a. Work or operations performed by you or on your behalf;
    b. Materials, parts or equipment furnished in connection with such work or operations.

CG2032: This is the additional insured form used when the holder is an engineer, architect or surveyor not engaged by the named insured.

Notice of Cancellation Provision: Typically there will be a 30 day notice of cancellation. However, it is quite common to also have 10 day notice of cancellation in the event of non-payment of premium.

Impaired Aggregate: This occurs when there has been a claim that reduces the aggregate limit.
